Quick Dish NY: NORTH COAST’S Improvised Hip-Hopera ANYBODY Comes To The Connelly Theater This September

NORTH COAST is a group of improv comedy vets known for their fusion of freestyle rapping and improv comedy. Their fully improvised musical comedies have played to nationwide and international audiences. They’ve also impressed audiences at the PIT in NYC with their weekly signature show and have been featured on Vh1, in Slate’s The Gist, The Village Voice, and The New York Times. Starting September 20th, the group brings their FULLY improvised show ANYBODY: An Improvised Historical Hip-Hopera to the Connelly Theater in the East Village.

North Coast in action

The show, directed by Jody Shelton (Baby Wants Candy), will run for FIVE performances through Saturday, September 23. ANYBODY, inspired by the smash Broadway hit Hamilton, takes an audience suggestion of any historical figure to create, yes you guessed it, a full-length improvised hip-hopera. Previous shows have featured historic greats like Nikola Tesla, Frederick Douglass, and Louisa May Alcott. The cast features, Richie Alfson (Shadows, Raptime), Katy Berry (Baby Wants Candy, Magnet Theatre), Steve Jeanty (Off Top, Ski Legend), Mike Poole (My Mommas Biscuits, Off Top), Meg Reilly (Baby Wants Candy, Broadway’s Next Hit Musical), James Robilotta (Mock Turtle Soup, Veal), Rachel Rosenthal (Blank! The Musical, Reckless Theatre), Douglas Widick (Baby Wants Candy, UCB Maude Night), and RJ Williams (10K hours, Dallas Improv Theatre). Perhaps YOU will be lucky enough to drop them a suggestion that will be swiftly turned into a hip-hopera with funny, improvised beats, rhymes, and storyline. Check out the performance schedule below and be a part of North Coast history. GO!
