John Goodman hosted his 13th Saturday Night Live this weekend. There were some highs and lows but overall I was quite pleased with the outcome. The best sketch of the night was the cold open parody of Obama’s speech at Mandela’s funeral. Kenan Thompson was brilliant as the sign language interpreter miming the president’s every word in the silliest, most hysterical way. Obama soon discovers the sneaky signer, who is escorted away by the secret service. Luckily, Kate McKinnon‘s desperate Angela Merkel soon takes the stage keen on acquiring a presidential selfie.

John Goodman brought in his heavy hitting acting pals Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro for an amusing holiday sketch with the Three Wise Men updated with a very Jersey attitude and look.

During the Weekend Update we were delighted by SNL favorite, Drunk Uncle. Only this time drunk uncle brought in his Drunker Uncle for some complaining fun. Those kids leaving Santa “Instagram crackers and almond milk” are just the worst.

I’m always in the mood for an SNL musical number, most especially one dealing with the fashion world. Let’s just say the SNL writers have visited an H&M or two. “The lines for the register, all the way to Senegal” is no lie. Oh, and John Goodman trying to get on a pair of skinny jeans is simply beyond words.

Finally, John Goodman and Kate McKinnon played two drunkards at last call trying to get it on with each other. What could go wrong? Whip cream and beard licking, that’s what! It was a train wreck that you just couldn’t help looking at. Even the performers couldn’t help snickering.
