“Welcome to Midday: History Repeating” is a storytelling show about how after growing up in Mississippi, Sharon Spell landed a job as a Victorian house museum docent in Pittsburgh. As she led tours through each of the public and private rooms where a Gilded Age robber baron and his family once lived, Sharon recognized this compartmentalization in her own life. She had made a series of mistakes and to publicly save face couldn’t let on how miserable she was in private. Folks heard her southern accent at work and asked, “How did you get here?” Some way, somehow, she would have to confront the reasons “how” in order to change the course of her own life’s tour.
SPELL is an award-winning writer, storyteller and former museum docent. She was recently accepted to St. Nell’s Humor Writing Residency where she began writing this show. Notable performance credits include two-time Moth StorySLAM winner, co-host of Gems Stories, and on stage at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre NY. Even though she’s no longer a docent, she still has a tour guide vibe so folks ask her which aisle things are on while she’s shopping (she usually knows).
This show is directed by Julia Whitehouse, and offers up a unique solo comedy storytelling experience. No matter where we go, history will repeat until we learn from our past.
