Quick Dish TO: AMISH FAMOUS Solo Sketch Musical 3.5 at Comedy Bar for TOsketchfest ’26

AMISH FAMOUS is a solo sketch musical, starring comedy writer, performer and director Spencer Glassman, about an Amish girl who defies her Bishop father by leaving home to audition for American Idol – told from the perspective of the detective investigating her subsequent disappearance.

Amish Famous actually began as a feature film script, sans music. Glassman and her sibling developed this idea for a period piece about a young woman, Jane Herschburger, who trades her strict Amish village for the concrete jungle of New York City to pursue her dream of becoming a singer by auditioning for American Idol; a dream expressly forbidden by her foreboding Bishop father. The concept was always meant to be farcical and fantastical, but when she began developing a show for Sketch Fest, she realized she already had this rich, ridiculous character just waiting to be explored onstage.

Glassman is a huge fan of shows like Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and artists like Bo Burnham and Cat Cohen, and Amish Famous has given her the chance to fully let her musical-theatre freak flag fly, while also testing the waters on a concept ultimately destined for the big screen!

Glassman has performed in comedy clubs and festivals all over North America including both Toronto and Montreal Sketch Festivals, Comedy Bar and the Fun and Dumb Improv Festival at BCC. Her one-woman-musical-sketch show, Child Star, was featured in Brooklyn Magazine and played in both Canada and New York City. She is so excited to be directed once again by the great theatre artist and comic, Zoe Marín. Now grab those tickets below, if you find yourself in the Toronto area!
