Inspired by a real-life experience, TOO MANY BUDDHAS, written by C. Fraser Press & Maeve Press and directed by C. Fraser Press, is a 13-minute comedy about family, grief, and the absurdity of being human. The short film is presented by A May Sky Picture Entertainment and won the Best Comedy award at Montreal’s Just for Laughs Comedy Festival.
In the short, Nora, played by Maeve Press (Everything’s Gonna Be Okay on Hulu), is a teenage girl recounting her disastrous flute recital to her Buddha-collecting therapist. The colorful teen is eager to share her challenges yet her therapist, played by Maria Bamford (Paralyzed by Hope: The Maria Bamford Story on Netflix), seems strangely obtuse to her plight. Throughout the session, Nora desperately conveys the distress of her situation in a grandiose manner. Is she just ripping symptoms right out of the DSM-5 or is something deeper going on? Only one way to find out!
Enjoy!
