Go girl power! All of our favorite Fall shows are starting to trickle in slowly. Now I can recover from Breaking Bad on Tuesdays for the next two weeks (sigh of relief). New Girl and The Mindy Project are back! Let’s take a short trip down memory lane to last season’s finales. WARNING: SPOILERS!
When we last left the “New Girl” gang all the roommates were in attendance at Cece and Shivrang’s wedding. Schmidt is determined to sabotage the wedding at any cost after walking into the bride room and sensing that Cece is not ready to go through with her nuptial. Schmidt seeks the aid of Winston in his evil plot and all hell breaks loose. Jess’ dad had freaked Nick into doubt about his suitability as a boyfriend. Throughout the night he tries his best to thwart Schmidt’s plan but to no avail. Shivrang is “air horned” off a white horse. “Cotton-Eyed Joe” is played on a loop. When Jess accuses Nick of being in on the plot he is hurt and decides to help Schmidt. A BADGER, yes, a badger is dropped from the vent and fuels the fire. All this meddling proves too much for Cece and she confesses that she has feelings for another. Shivrang confesses that he too has feelings for someone else. That someone else is Elaine played by Taylor Swift who pops out of the audience and reunites with Shivrang. Schmidt is asked to choose between Cece and his long time beau and date, Elizabeth, but he runs off. During the badger melee Nick expresses his doubts to Jess and we think its over but Winston gives him the necessary pep talk. Nick runs to catch up with Jess but doesn’t have to run far. Jess is waiting for him and they reunite in true “New Girl” fashion with touching words, a kiss, and a ride off into the sunset.
How could we forget that long distance Skype session between Mindy and Casey? Awkward, adorable, and pure trainwreck delight is what the Mindy Project is all about. In an effort to prove that she’s ready to brave Haiti Mindy sets out on a camping adventure with Casey, Danny, Christina and Morgan. Initially sent into panic mode when the group tells her she should shed her lovely long locks Mindy sets out to prove she’s equipped for her new destination. She saves Morgan from catching on fire but soon learns shacking up with Casey in small quarters is no cake walk. Casey’s flossing, reading, and late night pee break push Mindy into serious doubt territory. Danny and Christina throw Mindy and Casey a going away party where some serious relationship unraveling goes down. Christina has covered Danny’s apartment in provocative b&w photos of Danny and he’s feeling smothered. Mindy eats a sheet cake as she realizes she is ill-prepared for her future life with Casey. Danny and Mindy meet up as they try to escape the festivities and share their fears. Mindy decides that giving Casey an ultimatum that she be engaged before heading out to Haiti is the right move. Mindy is shocked when Casey meets her challenge. Casey leaves broken-hearted when Mindy thwarts his proposal. After some-much needed inspiration from a new mother of triplets Mindy springs into action to get Casey back. We get the dramatic reveal of Mindy’s new pixie cut as Mindy tells Casey she will go to Haiti after all. And just when you think its all over the final scene in the hospital break room throws a wrench in everything. Danny tells Mindy he hates her new haircut and for a moment the two share a very intimate moment when he tells her he’s slowed things down with Christina. And BAM! Mindy tells Danny she’s going to Haiti. Cut! Scene!
