Video Licks: A 420 Themed Excerpt from THE MADS’ “Night of Shorts 3” PLUS May Livestream Announcement!

Happy “cannabis-oriented holiday” to you and yours. In celebration of this very green day,  Mystery Science Theater 3000 stars Trace Beaulieu (“Dr. Clayton Forrester”) and Frank Conniff (“TV’s Frank), known collectively as “The Mads,” have released a new video on their official YouTube channel titled MARIJUANA. The video is an excerpt from ‘A NIGHT OF SHORTS 3‘ event recorded April 13th. The educational short stars the late musician, actor, and politician Sonny Bono, who presents a PSA that could very easily be for or against pot usage. Yes, they used to play this 1968 anti-drug documentary film to high school health class students in the United States throughout the seventies. And quite ironically, Bono appears to be quite stoned throughout the film. Just like we did, you will get a kick out of The Mads’ priceless riff-fest, most especially remarks like “land Narc” and “this is all kids could be before Twitter.” After you watch this video, keep reading!

Hope Sonny’s gold number inspired you to break out The Beatles’ “Yellow Submarine” album as you start your 420 journey into chill. You might want to stay sober for just a bit longer though because tickets are now available for THE MADS’ T-Bird Gang livestream, happening Tuesday, May 11th. The duo will be live-riffing to their hearts’ content on the 1959 Roger Corman-produced film “classic” where “a high school boy, out to find his father’s killer, joins up with a gang of juvenile delinquents.” There will be a post-show Q&A with Frank & Trace, as well as a very special guest, to be announced! Get all the info about this ELEVENTH online event down below, AND enjoy the rest of the holiday, as safely as possible! I know, I know, you are sticking with the kid in the PSA’s ethusiastic statement, “nobody can tell me what to do with my own body!”

Mentions: May 11th show 5pm PDT. Buy tickets HERE. Purchase includes a download of the event for those who cannot watch live. (A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will benefit The Friends in Need Food Shelf, a community-funded food shelf and 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving the residents of Cottage Grove, St. Paul Park, Newport and Grey Cloud Island in Minnesota). Subscribe to The Mads YouTube channel to keep up with the latest content from riff-obsessed duo. This event is produced in collaboration with Dumb Industries.
